
There is hardly any design or technique that is not included in Indian
designs. The vast country as it is, each region has its own designs and
embroidery styles.
In the kashmiri embroidery involves nature. Chinar leaves, flowers,
fruits, twines, creepers and other components of natural surroundings
form the design. In phulkari again floral motifs and geonetical accents
are used. Rajasthani and Gujarati embroidery involves a lot of geometric
patterns with use of mirrors and beads.
Orissa and southern embroidery like kasuti are based on temple figures.
Kantha tells the story of life. Chikan since done mainly by the
followers of Islam avoid using human and animal figures and include
creepers and flowers.
Silk work, mirror work, beads, zari, zardozi each is exclusive to
indian embroidery design. each creates its own aura, each has an
individual identity.
Each state in India has a unique embroidery style and an equally unique
set of motifs. Together they form the rich style of Indian Embroidery.
