Indian Embroidery Detached Buttonhole Stitch

Detached buttonhole stitch Detached Buttonhole Stitch is worked to create hook eyelets and decorative raised thread patterns. It can be worked over foundation threads or ribbons. This stitch is often used in cut out work to link two patterns together. The finished stitch makes a long bar of embroidery. It is also called the buttonhole bar.

With this stitch you practically a layer of fabric is constructed to add texture or high relief to a pattern. This stitch is used in needle lace and Stump work. The thread or the ribbon is first formed into a loop on the fabric. The stitch is then worked like a normal buttonhole stitch on the thread and not piercing the fabric at any point except at the end of the stretch. These stitches should be worked closely together and for the best results.
